What is Minor Skin Surgery?
Minor skin surgery is a small procedure aimed to remove part or all of the lesion to aid in the diagnosis and treat simple lesions. It involves a short procedures, usually lasting 10 to 30 minutes, sometimes performed under local anaesthetic.
Which conditions can Minor Skin Surgery be used for?
The following is an example of the sorts of lesions that can be treated by a short procedure:
• Skin tags
• Warts
• Seborrhoeic Keratoses
• Cysts
• Lipomas
• Moles
• Milia
• Syringomas
• Xanthelasma
• Comedones
• Other lumps and bumps
Which techniques are used in Minor Skin Surgery?
• Shave excision – this involves literally shaving lumps and bumps off flush to the skin surface
• Curettage – scraping away lesions
• Excision with stitches
• Cauterising – using heat from an electrical current
• Cryotherapy – using liquid nitrogen to freeze skin lesions
• Acid therapy – to dissolve cholesterol deposits and certain types of scars
